| This book of Prof. Sivadas makes
the learning of science easier and sweeter. The title “
The Joy of Science” therefore aptly fits in. Many students,
teachers and even those who are in scientific and technical
work, understand certain narrow aspects mechanically and do
their work. Though their work is useful to the society due to
the embedded aspect of science and technology processes, they
themselves may not fully enjoy science. |
| This book is an attempt and a useful contribution
to fill this gap. The initial parts of the book are innovatory
in nature to draw the reader’s mind out from the fear
of thinking. Associated ‘cartoons’ lighten the reading
making ‘the Thapasya’ as the author calls it; ‘absolute
dedication to the cause’. |

| He also gives practical tips to time management, so
crucial in the modern world with huge explosion of information. Another
practical aspect is to make the reader think ‘global’
and to study for global opportunities (built in message is not to
dispose it off as a tool for an exam or quiz). |
| The figures describing science, its diverse specialties
which, includes social science as well, is remarkably simple yet very
insightful. This is followed by a practical and easily understandable
writing of scientific methodology. In that process author points out
that ‘the super highway is never idle’ and also that the
ocean of science steadily grows. Its depth and width increases, its
boundaries enlarge and the horizons go still far away. The words are
chosen very carefully. They address the reader in plane of imagination.
The readers who dwell on these pages will be able to imprint the processes
of science past, present and future in their mental space very firmly. |
| Rest of the book contains many simple experiments and
scientific explanations. They illustrate the processes of science
in addition to providing a wide range of information to the reader. |
| All those who read it, will enjoy not only the contents
but also learn much about the processes of modern science. Those who
can do some of the experiments will admire nature and get inspired. |
